Academia Europaea

Academia Europaea is a European, non-governmental association whose objective is the advancement and promotion of scholarly work in Europe. It encompasses both the natural sciences and the humanities and social sciences.

Members of the academy include not only researchers currently working across Europe but also researchers who were trained in Europe. Membership of the academy,  which was founded in 1988, is granted on the basis of nomination and subsequent election by existing members.

The following members of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have been admitted to Academia Europaea:

Winfried Nerdinger (2015)

Associate Professor (Emeritus) of History of Architecture (Department of Architecture)

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Winfried Nerdinger was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 2015.

Javier Esparza (2011)

Full Professor of Theoretical Computer Science (Department of Informatics)

Prof. Dr. Javier Esparza was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 2011.

Johannes Lercher (2010)

Full Professor of Chemical Technology (Department of Chemistry)

Prof. Dr. Johannes Lercher was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 2010.

Klaus Mainzer (2007) *

Full Professor of Philosophy and Philosophy of Science (TUM School of Education) since 2008

Prof. Dr. Klaus Mainzer was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 2007.

Arthur Konnerth (2004)

Full Professor at the Friedrich Schiedel endowed Chair of Neuroscience (TUM School of Medicine)

Prof. Dr. Arthur Konnerth was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 2004.

Franz Hofmann (2003)

Full Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology (TUM School of Medicine)

Prof. Dr. Franz Hofmann was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 2003.

Edward William Schlag (1998)

Full Professor of Physical Chemistry (Department of Chemistry)

Prof. Dr. Edward William Schlag was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 1998.

Wilfried Brauer (1994)

Full Professor of Theoretical Computer Science and Foundations of Artificial Intelligence (Department of Informatics)

Prof. Dr. Wilfried Brauer (1937–2014) was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 1994.

Manfred Broy (1991)

Full Professor of Software & Systems Engineering (Department of Informatics)

Prof. Dr. Manfred Broy was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 1991.

Robert Huber (1990)

Honorary Professor of the Department of Chemistry

Prof. Dr. Robert Huber was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 1990.

Robert Geipel (1989)

Full Professor of Applied Geography

Prof. Dr. Robert Geipel (1929–2017) was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 1989.

Wolfgang Kaiser (1989)

Full Professor of Experimental Physics (Department of Physiks)

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kaiser was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 1989.

Hubert Ziegler (1989)

Full Professor of Botany and Microbiology

Prof. Dr. Hubert Ziegler (1929–2009) was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 1989.

Rudolf Mößbauer (1988)

Full Professor of Experimental Physics (Department of Physics)

Prof. Dr. Rudolf Mößbauer (1929–2011) was elected a member of the Academia Europaea in 1988.
