Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art

The Maximilian Order is a prestigious accolade presented by the Free State of Bavaria to reward outstanding achievements in the fields of science and art. The order was established by King Maximilian II in 1853 and was initially awarded until 1932, when it was discontinued. In 1980 the order was reinstated.

The order is conferred by the Bavarian Minister-President every two years and the number of living members of the order is limited to 100.
