First-Years’ Event: Welcome@TUM

For the youngest members of our TUM family, a new and inspiring phase of their lives begins, and President Thomas F. Hofmann warmly welcomes them to our university – with the first-years’ event “Welcome@TUM.”

The Event

The first-years’ event will take place on October 18, 2021, at 5 o’clock (p.m.) in the open air on the square facing the Faculty Building Mathematics & Informatics (Boltzmannstr. 3) at Garching Campus. The campus is easily reachable by public transport via the U6 Garching Forschungszentrum and the event location is just a few steps away from the subway station.

Simultaneously, the event will be streamed live on this website.

Live stream from 5 p.m.

Participation on site

Each first-year student will receive an e-mail from the organizing team regarding the raffle of the free and personalized event tickets. Due to the pandemic, the number of participants on the event grounds must be restricted.

Hygiene precautions

In order to protect the participants’ health as much as possible in times of the Covid-19 pandemic, only vaccinated, recovered or tested negative with PCR test (3G+) first-semester students with a ticket will be admitted. A negative rapid antigen test result is not sufficient.

A check-in system at the entrance  will allow for contact tracing as well as free choice of placement for the guests.  The maximum number of people on the event grounds is determined by the applicable hygiene regulations.

President Thomas F. Hofmann will lead through the first-years’ event. The program includes:

  • Welcome and speech by the President Thomas F. Hofmann
  • Introduction of the various TUM locations
  • Video messages from first-year students
  • Beverages and snacks: soft drinks and soft pretzels
