The School of Management of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has earned its third internationally renowned certification in the form of the AACSB accreditation. This completes the so-called "Triple Crown", including the AMBA and EQUIS accreditations. To date this has been achieved by only approximately 70 business schools around the world with outstanding teaching and research performance. Although the TUM School of Management is only 15 years old, it is one of only three institutions in Germany to earn this seal as yet. The TUM School of Management has an internationally unique profile in "Management and Technology".
The AACSB accreditation is issued by the US Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Last month the TUM School of Management was awarded the European equivalent, the EQUIS accreditation of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). As early as 2015 the School received the AMBA accreditation from the Association of MBAs for its Executive MBA programs. These accreditations are regarded internationally as a highly-respected seal by prospective students as well as in the academic community.
In order to achieve the "Triple Crown", an institution has to fulfill a large number of quality criteria, including highly qualified teaching staff, a curriculum with an international character, close-knit interaction with business and substantial dedication in terms of ethics and sustainability.
Management students learn engineering subjects
The TUM School of Management has developed an internationally unique profile by orienting its teaching and research entirely to the interaction of management and technology. Thus for example 30 percent of the Bachelor's degree program is devoted to an engineering or natural science subject. The school's graduates, who combine their management qualifications with technological expertise, are in high demand in the corporate sector. "In the age of extremely rapid technological progress, key topics in economics have to be reformulated and have to focus for example on innovative power and entrepreneurship," says Dean Prof. Gunther Friedl. "The 'Triple Crown' confirms the fact that we are on the right track with this strategy."
Teaching aligned with new management cultures
Furthermore the TUM School of Management has reacted to the evolution of corporations, where digital technologies are tending to flatten hierarchical levels and career profiles are changing drastically. "The cultures of leadership and innovation familiar from start-ups, for example agile and virtual teams, are becoming increasingly widespread in companies," says Friedl. "The TUM School of Management is coordinating its curriculum to match these rapid developments: with an internally and externally open education, strong orientation towards the requirements of companies, digital learning strategies and with rigorous scientific advances."
Only 15 years after its founding, the TUM School of Management has an enrollment of over 4,500 students. The school is composed of five academic departments in which approximately 250 scientists conduct their research.
