Agreement opens new prospects for graduates from universities of applied sciences
TUM and Munich University of Applied Sciences establish collaboration on doctoral projects
The Technical University of Munich and the Munich University of Applied Sciences have been trailblazers in offering cooperative doctoral programs for many years. In 2012, they established a postgraduate program in “Building Technology and Energy Efficiency”, which operates under the umbrella of the TUM Graduate School. In addition, MUAS is one of five partner universities in the “TUM Applied Technology Forum”. This platform, established by TUM’s Munich School of Engineering during the same year, promotes cooperative doctoral projects in energy research.
TUM and MUAS have now reached an agreement on their collaboration in joint doctoral projects for young research talents at MUAS in any of the subject areas offered by both universities. Doctoral candidates – whether enrolled in joint programs or working on individual projects – will be supervised by professors from both institutions. These doctoral candidates will become members of the TUM Graduate School, thus benefitting from the institution's high quality standards for doctoral projects. Candidates can expect a binding supervision agreement, interdisciplinary continued education, and exchange with doctoral candidates from other disciplines. While doctoral degrees will be awarded by TUM, both institutions and supervisors will be mentioned on the certificate.
About four percent of the currently 5,000 doctoral candidates at TUM are doing research in cooperative projects with universities of applied sciences, one third of these students in cooperation with MUAS.
The Bavarian Academic Forum was founded by universities and universities of applied sciences in 2015 in order to establish standards for joint doctoral programs.
