“Times Higher Education” queries scientists worldwide about the reputation of universities in terms of research and teaching. Furthermore, data such as the number of publications per scientist, citations per publication, the ratio between lecturers and students, third-party funding received from industry, and the degree of internationalization is evaluated.

This year TUM has climbed seven places to be ranked in 46th position. In a German context, it comes third behind the LMU Munich (30th position) and Heidelberg University (43th). The other important international ranking lists, the “QS World University Ranking” and the “Shanghai Ranking,” have TUM listed as the best university in Germany.

TUM is Germany’s top-ranked technical university. On a European level, it is part of the top four, ranking behind the Imperial College (8th), ETH Zurich (9th), and EPF Lausanne (30th).
