Startups highly successful in the 2018 Munich Businessplan competition

Seven TUM founder teams among the Top Ten

Seven of the ten best Munich business ideas come from the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The teams ApicBeam, Cliniserve, Cryodynamics, Kewazo, Kumovis, Pave Group and SoilSpy earned honors in the first phase of the 2018 Munich Businessplan competition. Their innovations are from the areas medical technology, cryogenic engineering, the construction industry, construction robotics, laser technologies and agriculture.

Supported by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology, the BayStartUP initiative conducts the Businessplan competitions to assist young entrepreneurs. The various phases of the competition correspond to the stages of founding progress: For example, in phase 1 the business idea and benefit for the customer are evaluated, at later phases, criteria such as financing and marketing are added. Each of the winning teams in phase 1  receives a cash prize of 500 euros. A total of 144 pitch decks and business plans were submitted in the current round of competition; seven of the ten winning business ideas are from TUM teams:

APICBEAM

APICBEAM display technology creates images and videos freely suspended in open space for use in digital communications. Image information is coded in a thin line of light using optical dispersion. Here the image appears freely suspended like a hologram.

Cliniserve

Cliniserve helps hospitals make optimum use of their personnel with a software management tool. The patient interacts with the Cliniserve software using his or her own mobile phone and the software automatically delegates patient requests and tasks to personnel who then receive the information by smartphone.

Cryodynamics

Cryodynamics develops completely automated next-generation cryogenic coolers: thanks to its scalability and sustainability, the solid state-based technology is suitable for long-term generation of extremely low temperatures for the application of quantum technologies on an industrial scale.

KEWAZO

The KEWAZO team has developed an intelligent robot system for the construction industry which makes it possible to move scaffolding parts in a cost-efficient and safe manner. It can be set up by only two people and uses a combination of vertical and horizontal transport to realize a more constant material flow than is possible with other methods.

Kumovis

Kumovis develops and sells innovative 3D printers based on FFF technology for the manufacture of medicinal products.

PAVE Group

PAVE is a software service tool for defect management, construction documentation and document management. The intuitive software solution helps all those involved in the process to collaboratively realize and manage construction projects and buildings.

SoilSpy

Agro-businesses can use the SoilSpy sensor system to directly analyze environmental parameters as well as the concentration of specific nutrients in their agricultural spaces and to initiate appropriate measures for maximizing yield while minimizing fertilizer quantities and cutting costs.

Support in the Entrepreneurship Center

TUM and UnternehmerTUM support spin-offs at the research campus Garching's Entrepreneurship Center from the first idea to the IPO with a range of services unique in Europe. Here start-up teams find an extensive range of opportunities for support, personal exchange with entrepreneurship researchers and access to a robust network of technology and industry sector experts and investors. Office space and Europe's largest publically accessible high-tech prototype workshop, the UnternehmerTUM MakerSpace, round out the service range available to corporate founders.
