Celebrations to mark 150 years of TUM begin with Advent Matinee

Ouverture for the anniversary year for a "world-class university"

The TUM Advent Matinee on the 1st Sunday of Advent in the Philharmonie im Gasteig has a long tradition. Also the Advent concert Vivat TUM for alumni and freshmen as well as the honouring of the new TUM Ambassadors. The special feature this year: President Prof. Wolfgang A. Herrmann opened the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the TUM.

"This Advent matinee is the prelude to our founding anniversary: 150 years of TUM - that means: innovation since 1868," Herrmann said. "Ludwig II King of Bavaria founded us then as'Royal Bavarian Polytechnic School of Munich'. From small, modest beginnings, it has become a world-class university.
