Special performance by Bayerische Staatsoper

Highly acclaimed "Meistersinger" for TUM anniversary

Last night the “TUM family” celebrated the 150-year history of their university with a special "birthday present": The Bayerische Staatsoper ensemble put on an exclusive performance of Richard Wagner's opera "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg".

Both made their debut in Munich in 1868: On June 21, a little more than two months after the founding of what was then the Polytechnic School Munich, today TUM, "Die Meistersinger" was first presented on stage in the National Theater in Munich. Both was made possible by the Bavarian King Ludwig II, a patron of the composer. 150 years later Wagner's opera is thus the ideal piece for a musical anniversary celebration for the members and friends of TUM – who learned shortly before the curtain rose that TUM has been successful in the new round of the Excellence Initiative with a total of four research clusters. The announcement was the perfect touch to round out the evening, made possible with the support of Linde AG.
