How to Deal with the Legacy of Fritz Koenig?
During the lifetime of sculptor Fritz Koenig, the sculpture museum in Hofberg, now the KOENIGMuseum, was entirely geared towards the personal ideas of the artist and founder, in accordance with the decisions of the Fritz and Maria Koenig Foundation. Today, eight years after his death, it is important to shed light on this legacy and engage in a discourse on how it can be carried forward into the future.
In addition to a digital archive, this includes the scientific preservation of his estate and the programmatic orientation of the museum dedicated to him. Another important part of this legacy is the Ganslberg, his home and place of work since 1961, which was listed as a historic monument in 2019. This unique place, owned by the Fritz and Maria Koenig Foundation, is still seeking a future-oriented use. Specific ideas for its use are currently being explored for the first time as part of a Leader project.
