On social media, it’s almost impossible to avoid ads for dietary supplements. At the same time, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms are a constant source of misinformation. About two-thirds of the dietary supplements promoted by German influencers exceed the recommended maximum daily intake—without any mention of the negative consequences of an overdose. They are advertised with discounts and promises of effectiveness and are often improperly portrayed as miracle cures.

The Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Nutritional Medicine (EKFZ) is discussing with experts from the fields of science, consumer protection, and social media the health risks this poses and how misinformation can be effectively countered.
