TUM University Foundation Fellowship

Participants of the Research Opportunities Week (ROW) at TUM have the exclusive opportunity to apply for the one year TUM University Foundation Fellowship (TUFF). Successful applicants receive a one-year funding by TUM and are integrated into a TUM institution of their research field. In this way, the TUM offers scholarship holders sufficient freedom to sharpen their research profile and to initiate new interdisciplinary research projects together with professors.

TUM has so far awarded 105 fellowships. Take a look at the website about the current Fellows and their research projects.

The basic requirement for an application is that candidates find a professor to support their application during the ROW. The following documents must be submitted approximately one month after the end of the ROW:

  • Letter of motivation incl. project description (2 to max. 3 pages)
  • Letter of support from a professor at TUM
  • Current CV and list of publications, proof of doctorate or a statement from the supervising professor that the doctorate will be completed before the fellowship begins.

Applications for the TUM University Foundation Fellowship are evaluated by an independent committee of all relevant departments of the TUM, which selects the best applicants.

All applicants will be informed of the results in August. The fellowship can begin between the following October and September of next year.

In addition to funding for one year from the TUM, the Fellows are supported in acquiring further third-party funds. For example, the TUM Talent Factory offers individual advice on funding opportunities or workshops.

Since the beginning of the program, 105 TUFF Fellows have been selected to carry out a research project at the TUM. Two thirds of the Fellows stayed at the TUM after their one-year stay, many of them with third-party funded projects.
