Reserving your Spot

You have been admitted to TUM but need to defer your studies? These are your options:

Bachelor

Generally speaking, an admission remains valid for subsequent applications.

You need to re-apply with your current TUMonline account within the relevant application deadline and provide a complete set of documents, since all hard copies are destroyed after the end of an application period.

Procedure for degree programs with restricted admission (NC):

If you have been admitted to a degree program with restricted admission (NC) but must defer your studies because of voluntary military or civil service, or for another reason listed in §19 of the Hochschulzugangsverordnung (HZV) (admission regulations), please proceed as follows:

  • Accept your spot in your TUMonline-Account.
  • Register for your spot to be reserved.
  • Reactivating Admission after Completion of Voluntary Service:

    • As soon as you are able to begin your studies, accept your spot for the desired semester in your TUMonline-Account. Then, in accordance with §19 of the HZV , send proof of military or civil service or equivalent and any other missing documents (i.e. current proof of student health insurance coverage) to the Admissions Office as soon as possible.

  • NB: Hardcopies of your submitted application materials are destroyed after the end of the respective application period.

Master

As a rule, admission remains valid for all subsequent applications. For specific information, please consult the Academic and Examination Regulations of your degree program.

Procedure

  • To renew your admission, you must submit a new online application using your current TUMonline user account.
  • Send it along with all other require materials (e.g. signed application for admission, supporting documents) within the designated application period.
  • NB: Hardcopies of your submitted application materials are destroyed after the end of the respective application period.
  • For further inquiries, please call our hotline or the TUM Registrar’s Office.
