Reserving your Spot

You have been admitted to TUM but need to defer your studies? These are your options:

Bachelor's

Usually, an admission remains valid for subsequent applications to the same program.

What you need to do:

  1. Decline your spot in your TUMonline-Account. If this is no longer possible, contact studium@tum.de and state your applicant or application number. Declining a spot does not revoke the admission.
  2. Re-apply for the semester you want to commence your studies in during the relevant application period using your existing TUMonline-Account
  3. Submit the application for admission and all application documents withing the application period.

The documents you submitted during your initial application are destroyed in compliance with our data privacy guidelines. You need to re-submit a complete set of documents with your new application.

Given that the criteria for admission (as set forth in the Academic and Examination Regulations) have not changed substantially, you will then be admitted directly without having to re-submit to aptitude assessment. If you have questions concerning these criteria, please contact the academic advising staff of the school or department.

Exception for Degree Programs with Restricted Admission (Numerus Clausus):

If you have been admitted to a degree program with restricted admission (NC) but must defer your studies because of voluntary military or civil service, or for another reason listed in §19 of the Hochschulzugangsverordnung (HZV) (admission regulations), please proceed as follows:

  • Accept your spot in your TUMonline-Account.
  • Register for your spot to be reserved in your TUMonline-Account..
  • Re-apply for the semester you want to commence your studies in during the relevant application period using your existing TUMonline-Account
  • Submit the application for admission and all application documents withing the application period.
  • As soon as you are able to begin your studies, accept your spot for the desired semester in your TUMonline-Account. Then, in accordance with §19 of the HZV , send proof of military or civil service or equivalent and any other missing documents (i.e. current proof of student health insurance coverage) to the Admissions Office as soon as possible.

The documents you submitted during your initial application are destroyed in compliance with our data privacy guidelines. You need to re-submit a complete set of documents with your new application.
