BAföG is the abbreviation for Federal Education and Training Assistance Act. This act regulates the promotion of the training and education of students at secondary schools and universities. BAföG is also used to refer to financial support, which is stipulated by law. The State provides funding when neither the parents/spouses nor the students themselves can bear the cost of living and education.
Whether you are entitled to financial support through the BaföG and in what amount depends on a number of factors, such as, your nationality, age and amount of available income, as well as the income of your parents/spouse.
Applications for BAföG can only by submitted to the Financial Aid Office at the Munich Student Union. There you can also receive advice and assistance on how to apply for BaföG assistance.
