Summer School with an emphasis on engineering and geodesy

This four week summer school provides an introduction into key TUM research areas such as geodesy and engineering as well as sustainable management of natural resources. A particular highlight of the course is an intensive seminar of several days taking place at the Wettzell observatory and Straubing Centre of Science.

In addition to this subject-specific content, the course program is supplemented by a German language course at various levels as well as cultural and free-time events. Including visits to sights in and around Munich and also the city´s cultural scene.

Next course: August 1st - August 25th 2017

  • Main emphasis: Geodesy, Satellite geodesy, Environmental science
  • Target groups: International and national Bachelor students of geodesy, environmental engineering or engineering with special interest in space engineering and satellite applications related to navigation. Students should have completed their first year of study
  • Pre­­requisite: Fluency in English; Basic knowledge in programming or nature science is helpful but not a must
  • Fees:
  • 2200 € for international students
  • 2050 € for national students (without German language course)
  • Application period: January 15th - May 15th 2017

  • Technical TUM workshops in Geodesy, Satellite geodesy and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources
  • Technical excursions e.g. to BMW, Max-Planck-insitutes
  • Intensive seminar of several days at research institutes of TUM near Munich 
  • Different presentations about geodetic issues or the state of the art in the field of Sustainable Management of Natural Resources
  • Introduction to programming language C
  • Practical training: programming of small navigation robots using the Arduino environment

German Language and Culture

  • Maximum group size: 18 participants. Beginner course and advanced groups
  • Designed to improve communication skills and facilitate interaction in everyday life in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1-C1)
  • A full day of training on inter­cultural communication

Course language: German
No previous knowledge of German is necessary
40 hours, 2 ETCS points

Cultural and Free time program

Discover Munich and its sourrounding areas

  • Day excursions (Regensburg, Nuremberg or Salzburg, hiking in the Alps)
  • Guided tour of Munich
  • Visit to a museum (e.g. German Museum, Pinakotheken (famous art galleries))
  • Cultural events (e.g. theater, cinema or opera)
  • Group activities such as international evening or sports in the English Garden
