150 years of TUM: a ceremonial celebration

In the scope of the TUM’s anniversary celebration, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier emphasized how important it is to have the courage to shape the future. In his speech on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the university’s founding – in front of 1,200 guests at the Residenz München – Steinmeier stated that the university’s “Lust auf Zukunft” could set an example.


MaiTUM 2018:

The student representation has been organizing May celebrations at TUM since 2015. This year, the event will take place on two days, May 3 and 4. The organizers are especially proud of the new highlight of the MaiTU festival: a Ferris wheel.


150 years of TUM:

JubilaTUM, a beer to cheer

150 years of TUM – this calls for a celebration! …of course with JubilaTUM, a special beer from our own brewery. It was developed by the most important actors of our university: the students.


A specially designed card game:

“Schafkopfen” with TUM

“Wer spuit?” “I spui mit da Schell’nsau!” The TUM’s own deck of cards for “Schafkopf” is perfect for a “Sauspiel” or for solo-games. What’s special about it is that the trump-cards – the “Ober” and “Unter” – are adorned by the faces of our President, the Chancellor, and the Vices.


Science to browse through and make discoveries:

Not so much a dry essay, but more like a coffee table book: the app “TUM Interaktiv” for iOS and Android offers an exciting compendium of our 14 faculties – with animations, simulations, games, and puzzles.

There are several publications on the occasion of the TUM’s 150th anniversary – focusing on dedicated and important personalities and the history of the university. They are available in the TUM Shop on Main Campus, in the TUM Shop online, and via online bookstores.


World University Beach Volleyball Championship:

150 years of TUM: the World University Beach Volleyball Championship in July will be one of the sporting highlights of the anniversary year. The best players from 29 countries will meet up in the Olympiapark to fight for the title – in the sand. The preparations for the tournament have been going on for months. Nina Schels is a member of the organizing committee.

Bringing people together and creating innovation – that is exactly what Jérôme Lutz always wanted to do. When the urge got too strong to hold back, he left his job and started up as a networker in the biotech scene.

Many students want to make a change in the world – and Hannah Maral  want to make the world at least a little better. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she thus went to the Netherlands for seven months to work for a company that is pursuing an even more ambitious goal: to get rid of the plastic in the Pacific.

Not everybody manages to combine a course of studies and competitive sports. TUM-student Carina Wimmer is a sports shooter as well as a Bachelor’s student of Health Sciences. In March, she participated in the World University Shooting Sport Championships in Kuala Lumpur. In this interview, she tells us more about her unusual pastime.
