Main campus will be closed on New Year’s Eve / New Year’s Day
There will be no access to the buildings on the main campus from 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 31 to 9 a.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2012. The campus is out of bounds during this period. The TUM university board has drawn up this ruling in view of last year’s hooliganism. Should it be absolutely imperative for any member of staff to have access or be on the premises during this time, as part of the course of duty, the incumbent professor or head of department must notify Mr. Buchner, ZA 4 (firstname.lastname@example.org) in writing by December 20, 2011 at the latest. Mr. Buchner will accordingly issue a pass. The security firm has been given strict instructions to deny access to anybody without valid authorisation and to order any persons found on the premises to leave immediately.
National “Students for Students” competition
The German Students’ Union (DSW) is once again on the look-out for dedicated students who assist their fellow undergraduates voluntarily on the university campus. The “Students for Students” competition is being launched for the fifth time: The 5th Students Union prize for exceptional social commitment. This national competition is designed to publically honor individuals whose exemplary dedication to particular social projects sets an inspiring example. Conditions for entry: the students have to be nominated by an eligible member of the university. Self-nomination is not permitted. A total of 13,000 euros in prize money is to be awarded. The deadline for entries is January 13, 2012.
Series of talks on “Role model of sustainability: Hope – Action – Change” For the very first time, 13 Munich-based universities and institutes will be collectively organizing a series of talks on sustainability during the winter term 2011/2012. Anyone can attend this lecture series, which aims to bridge the gap between the academic world in economics, politics and culture and the general public. This event will serve to bring Munich’s universities and their multifaceted sustainability work closer together prior to the Rio+20 conference. The talks are scheduled to take place on January 10 + 24 and February 7 + 14, 2012.
