Daimler Supervisory Board Chairman chosen to head HfP’s Board of Trustees

Bavarian School of Public Policy (HfP) to be based in the “Brienner Forum”

The Hochschule für Politik München (HfP) – Bavarian School of Public Policy is moving to a new location and will be based directly next to its supporting university, the Technical University of Munich (TUM). As the current building will be too small following the restructuring and significant expansion of HfP, it is moving to the “Brienner Forum” in the Maxvorstadt area of Munich. HfP's new Board of Trustees has also selected its Chairman: Dr. Manfred Bischoff, who is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Daimler AG.

The realignment of the Hochschule für Politik München (HfP) – Bavarian School of Public Policy is progressing well: from a total of 350 applications, around half of which came from outside Germany, the inter-faculty appointment committee, which included external members, selected eight individuals who are to be appointed to the new professorships. All of those selected have international experience. TUM President Professor Wolfgang A. Herrmann, who is also Reform Rector at HfP, is currently conducting negotiations with the appointees. The negotiations are expected to conclude in February 2016. The Bavarian State Parliament has just approved HfP's projected budget, so that the appointments can be made punctually. The concept of the Bachelor's program (B.Sc.) has been approved by the Board of Trustees and the Senate of HfP and is expected to be launched in the 2016/17 winter semester.

As the new HfP requires considerably more space than it did before, it will move from Ludwigstraße to the “Brienner Forum” at Königsplatz in the middle of next year. E.ON Bayern was previously based in the building. The “Brienner Forum” is located directly next to the TUM, facilitating cooperation with the supporting university.

Unique profile: policy and technology

The recently established Board of Trustees of HfP has now chosen its Chairperson: Dr. Manfred Bischoff, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Daimler AG, one of Germany's most experienced managers, will preside over the supervising body. His deputy is Professor Elisabeth Wacker, Chair of Sociology of Diversity at TUM.

The Bavarian School of Public Policy focuses its research and teaching on the interaction between politics, society, the economy and technology. This gives the school its particular profile. To develop this profile, the Bavarian State Parliament transferred responsibility for the college to the TUM one year ago. HfP will work closely with TUM's faculties and interdisciplinary research centers, particularly with the Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS), the Munich School of Engineering (MSE), the Munich School of Bioengineering (MSBE), and the Zentrum Digitalisierung.Bayern (ZD.B).
