Track and field athlete Christina Hering doing performance diagnostics at TUM

Real-time data for optimized training

Just a few meters from the Olympic Stadium, at the new Sports and Health Sciences Campus, research is being conducted into state-of-the-art performance diagnostics. Christina Hering, 13-time German 800-meter champion and TUM alumna, is working with a team from the Chair of Performance Analysis and Sports Informatics on her load control and running technique. German TV station ZDF accompanied her.

From 2013 to 2017, Christina Hering earned her Bachelor's degree in Sport Science at TUM. In 2020, she completed a Master's degree in Management. In parallel, she successfully advanced her track and field career, specializing in the 400-meter and 800-meter run.
In preparation for major tournaments, such as the recent European Championships in Munich, Christina Hering leaves nothing to chance: Together with Prof. Dr. Martin Lames and his team from the Chair of Performance Analysis and Sports Informatics, stride frequency, contact times, flight phases and various body data are recorded and played out live to the athlete and her coaches.
