Requirements
The start-up consultancy is open to all members of the TUM. You can get advice if you are a student, scientist, employee or alumni (max. 5 years) of TUM. Unfortunately, external persons cannot use the consulting services.

Frequently Asked Questions About TUM Start-up Consulting
The TUM Start-up Consulting is an internal service and is therefore intended for TUM students, researchers, staff members, and alumni. Support is provided exclusively to teams or individuals who have a TUM affiliation* and are neither currently engaged in business activities nor have founded a corporation.
*A TUM affiliation is established if at least one team member is a TUM student, staff member, or alumnus. Alternatively, a connection to TUM can be established if a TUM professor serves as your mentor as part of a state-funded start-up grant program (such as the EXIST funding).
Yes. The consulting is completely free of charge, and the content of our discussions (especially your ideas) will be treated confidentially.

The TUM Start-up Consulting guides you through the entire process of starting a business. However, you are the people who is responsible for carrying out each step, and we cannot take any important tasks off your hands. Furthermore, we do not offer legal or tax advice.
Our focus is on start-up ideas and innovations based on technological and knowledge. Unfortunately, our start-up consulting services cannot support projects focused exclusively on skilled trades, retail, or services.

We take a personalized approach to assessing the current status of your business idea. Depending on the stage of your project, we’ll either recommend a training program or offer you an initial consultation with a start-up advisor to discuss the next steps.
We work very closely with our partner, UnternehmerTUM, to ensure we can meet your individual needs with the appropriate support services.
In addition to providing substantive support through the TUM Start-up Consulting, TUM assists its founders by providing workspaces and office space.
The TUM Incubator at the Entrepreneurship Center in Garching provides founders with office space free of charge. There, you’ll have the opportunity to work on your idea and business plan in a large, shared open space.
If you secure funding through a program such as EXIST, you also have the option of obtaining an office at your supervising department or, depending on availability, moving into a private office at the TUM Incubator.
The TUM Start-up Consulting is a central component of the TUM Start-up Ecosystem. We will connect you appropriately with other members of the ecosystem, such as TUM Venture Labs or UnternehmerTUM. We will guide you through your journey to a successful startup and help you get the most out of the unique TUM ecosystem.
