Digitization in Studies and Teaching

The Board of the Technical University of Munich has set up the Steering Committee for Digitalization in Studies and Teaching with the aim of making the digitalization process in studies and teaching more dynamic.

Its members are Michael Strobel from TUM IT Management, Viola Muraro from the TUM Center for Study and Teaching, and Claudia Philipps as a delegate representing the Schools.

All digitalization projects are carefully examined and evaluated in terms of their benefits, expected costs, and complexity, and prioritized based on these criteria.

The following digitization projects are currently in progress in the area of study and teaching:

• Chatbots for students and staff
• AI enablement offerings for students and staff
• Digital TUM StudentCard in the TUM Campus app as a replacement for the physical StudentCard
• Digital canteen pass as proof of status group in the smartphone wallet app for payment with a personal bank card or wallet in the canteen
• Register modernization and e-government
• Digitization of committee processes
• Digital enrollment – extension towards a fully media‑break‑free online enrollment process
• Digitization of applications, such as leave of absence requests, withdrawal requests, and others
• Digital graduation documents
• Integration of the MoveON platform for international exchange into TUMonline
• Digital platform for recognizing academic achievements in national and international student mobility
• Data exchange via EuroTeQ
• Pilot alert software for critical or threatening situations, available to staff and students on the main campus
• Internal TUM Trust Center platform for trust services, including (automated) electronic seals and signatures, and the verification of digital documents for employees and students
