Deadlines, bridging, princesses

The application deadlines for the winter semester 2020/21 will be extended: until at least July 31, 2020, for the Bachelor's degree courses – and until June 30, 2020, for the Master's degree courses.

For the admission-restricted Bachelor's degree course Life Science Nutritional Sciences, the application deadline is now August 20, 2020. Further information can be obtained from the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung. There are no changes for Bachelor's programs whose application deadline normally ends on September 15.

Student Card and Semesterticket

With the support of the Studentenwerk and the MVV, we were able to find a solution to keep you mobile. Student Cards that were issued for the winter semester 2019/20 will remain valid until the end of the summer semester 2020 (September 30, 2020). Therefore, you don't need to re-validate your Student Card at the moment. Please also refer to notifications regarding the Semesterticket from the Munich public transport association MVV.

Interim financial aid

Since June 16, 2020, all students at state universities can apply for an interim financial aid via the portal www.ueberbrueckungshilfe-studierende.de, where it is possible to apply for a non-repayable grant between 100 EUR and 500 EUR (subject to proven need) for the months of June, July, and August 2020.

Princess of Science: Science meets youth

Johanna Baehr, PhD student at the TUM Chair for Security in Information Technology, and two other female researchers meet up with young girls to discuss what concerns them. Their aim is to find out what role science plays in the everyday lives of young people. In a Munich co-working space, they will meet other female scientists and young participants of "Jugend Forscht" to talk and to conduct practical experiments – on TV on Saturdays (KIKA) and in the ZDF Mediathek: Princess of Science

TUM: Junge Akademie – Apply by August 31, 2020

The nomination and application process for the TUM: Junge Akademie scholarship program starts now. This year's call is „DISRUPTION & RECONSTRUCTION – Opportunities for global collaboration!“. The deadline for application is August 31, 2020.  More information: TUM Junge Akademie Application

Essay competition: "Wir sind das Volk – Wer ist das Volk?"

30 years after the peaceful revolution, the Deutsche Gesellschaft e.V. invites students to participate in this year's essay competition (Title: "Wir sind das Volk – Wer ist das Volk?"). The closing date for entries is September 1, 2020. A six-member jury will review the entries and select the best essays by mid-October – focusing on originality, analytical power, and linguistic expression. The three best texts will be awarded with prize money of 2,000 EUR, 1,000 EUR, and 500 EUR. The 20 best essays will be published in one volume as a print publication. Journalist training in Munich

The Munich-based journalism school ifp offers the possibility to combine a course of studies with journalism training. Next year's course starts in March 2021. The training program is open to students from all scientific disciplines. Applicants should still be enrolled by the end of the three-year course in summer 2023. Module studies at the University of Philosophy

As a student at TUM, are you also interested in exploring fundamental ethical and philosophical questions? A cooperation with the University of Philosophy (HFPH) offers the possibility to do so in the scope of modular studies: TUM students can attend various courses at the HFPH – for example in the areas of business ethics, medical ethics, or the basics of philosophy. For Theresa Wettig, Master's student at TUM in Management & Technology, this is an exciting concept. Think.Make.Start. #11: Applications by July 13

The innovation format Think.Make.Start. (TMS) offers the possibility to work on your own product and business ideas in interdisciplinary teams, over the course of two weeks. You will learn to question the status quo and creatively test new approaches. Students from all faculties can take part in the course (6 ECTS), which will take place in the period from August 28 to September 15, 2020. More information: www.thinkmakestart.com

The TUMshop is open again

The TUMshop at Main Campus has opened again. The temporary opening hours are from 10 am to 2 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. If you need more TUM Community Masks – for example for visitors, guest lecturers, or students – you can buy them in the TUMshop for the internal price of 2,90 EUR per piece. Photo of the month: The winners in May

Take part in the photo competition of the TUM Global & Alumni Office and send us pictures of the best moments of your stay abroad, e.g. during an internship or a semester abroad! This month's photos were submitted by Alessia Fratini, Korbinian Per, and Maximilian Geitner – taken in Italy, Spain, and Japan. The winners can look forward to great vouchers for shops that offer fair and sustainable products. The winning picture will also be published on TUM's social media channels. VDI Prize 2020: The future needs excellence

As of now, engineers from Southern Bavaria and Austria can apply for the VDI Prize 2020 – in the following categories: Bachelor's thesis, Master's thesis, diploma thesis, dissertation, engineering start-up, and young engineers from the industry. Entries will be evaluated with regard to innovation and economic or social relevance. The applicants' personal and/or honorary commitment will be taken into consideration as well. Please send your documents to the VDI District Association Munich by September 14, 2020, at the latest.
