Climate policy, the world of taste, and inspiration in the field of construction

The 2018 UN Climate Change Panel Report addresses the consequences of a global temperature increase of 2 ° C: as much as 98% of all corals and a unique ecosystem of up to 1 million species will die, hundreds of millions of people will find themselves without drinking water supplies, and the sea level will rise by 50 cm on average.

The lecture series on environmental topics focuses on consequences, countermeasures, and challenges. Lectures at the IAS: the world of taste and inspiration in the field of construction

The ability to identify odorous substances and different tastes in foods contributes significantly to our quality of life – but what do fragrances and flavors consists of? What happens, on a biochemical level, when we perceive a fragrance? …and how do fragrances take shape in the brain? The lecture on the biochemical aspects of smell and taste perception will provide information on how humans perceive the complex molecular world of nature. Speaker: Prof. Thomas Hofmann, Chair of Food Chemistry and Molecular Sensors and designate President of TUM; Sunday, May 19, 2019, starting at 11 am at the IAS in Garching. TUM Lecture Hall Slam

…the fourth round: Vanessa Wergin will be hosting the evening at the Audimax. Once again, the slammers will present their views on topics such as equality, differences, and diversity – proving that not only all of Bavaria, but especially our university, is colorful. IKOM dates

Every year, a group of 100 TUM volunteers organizes four career forums and other events to promote personal contact between students, graduates, and companies. The upcoming dates are: IKOM Consulting Day on May 23, 2019; the IKOM Award on June 5, 2019; the IKOM fair from June 24 to 27, 2019; and the IKOM Start-Up on June 25, 2019. TUM at the Streetlife Festival

This year, TUM will once again take part in the Streetlife Festival, Munich's largest street festival (with over 250,000 visitors per weekend), and the booth is organized by the TUM Junge Akademie. Participants will be, amongst others, Prof. Tim Büthe, TUM School of Governance, and Prof. Elisa Resconi, Experimental Physics with Cosmic Particles. Diversity Day 2019: diversity of opportunities at TUM

The Diversity Day on May 28 serves as a framework event for a variety of activities focusing on the topic of diversity during the summer semester of 2019 – including, for example, offers by the faculties of Architecture, Computer Science, as well as Sports and Health Sciences. Further, the International Office will be hosting the International Day. The main event in the scope of the Diversity Day, the Bar Camp for international postdocs on May 28 in Garching, is organized by TUM Equal Opportunities. Journalism training alongside a course of studies

Three years of journalism training – free of charge, and alongside a regular course of studies – is what the journalism training program of the Institut zur Förderung publizistischen Nachwuchses e.V. (ifp) in Munich has to offer. The application deadline is May 31, 2019, and the training program starts in spring 2020. More information: ifp Journalistenausbildung

Gothenburg Jazz Night

In ice hockey, Gothenburg and Munich meet at eye level – and also in music: the TUM JazzBand welcomes the Gothenburg student big band Tongångarne in the scope of their tour of Germany. On June 10, 2019, you are thus invited to a joint concert evening packed with big band power – featuring three languages, Swedish local flavor with a „Latin“-feel, swinging Swag, as well as dance grooves. Admission is free. The Feierwerk gastronomy experts will ensure that your vocal cords don't dry out. TUM International Day at Main Campus

A big and colorful party on Main Campus: in the scope of the TUM International Day, international exchange students will present their home countries and universities, and TUM students will report on experiences they gathered during a semester abroad. To this end, there will be two information events (in parallel, in German and English) in which students and TUM staff talk about their stays abroad. The framework event offers a varied cultural program, including culinary specialties from different countries and international music. June 12, 2019 from 11:30 am to 4 pm. TUM Entrepreneurship Day

Start-up spirit at TUM: On June 24, 2019, we will be celebrating entrepreneurship at TUM – in the scope of a start-up fair with live pitches, awards, and a colorful variety of innovative ideas, technologies, and products. This is an opportunity for you to gather information regarding consulting offers and to exchange ideas with founding teams, industry partners, and the TUM's start-up consulting team. General Student Advising: Kontaktforum

Are you in doubt about your course of studies at TUM? Are you threatened with exmatriculation or have you already been exmatriculated? The "Kontaktforum" offers you an opportunity to get in contact with various counseling institutions, and to address topics such as reorientation and change of subject, opportunities for learning and exam coaching, aspects of social security in connection with dropping out, and opportunities regarding vocational training. At the forum, you can also get in touch with the General Advice Service of the Studentenwerk München, the TUM KHG, the TUM EHG, as well as the academic vocational guidance department of the Munich employment agency (Arbeitsagentur) and the vocational training centers (Berufliche Fortbildungszentren, bfz) of the Bavarian industry. The contact forum will take place on June 26, 2019 (from 11 am to 2 pm) in the Magistrale of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Garching, Boltzmannstr. 3. Social commitment: mentoring for prospective students

It is not exactly easy to shape your own future. Even if you manage your "Abitur" and enroll for the course of studies of your choice, you might not know what you have to expect from your studies. The mentoring program "Step Inside" offers an opportunity for you to help prospective students get a better impression of university life. You will be assigned a mentee, answer his/her questions and provide a realistic insight into studying and university life.
