150 years of TUM

JubilaTUM, a beer to cheer

150 years of TUM – this calls for a celebration! …of course with JubilaTUM, a special beer from our own brewery. It was developed by the most important actors of our university: the students.

A total number of 26 teams had submitted recipe suggestions in the scope of a brewing competition among students and doctoral students of the Weihenstephan Science Center – and brewing experts singled out the eleven most promised recipes, also considering the aspect of technical implementation. The teams were allowed to brew their recipes into practice and to submit their creations to the competition.

The tasting took place in August 2017, at the Chair of Brewing and Beverage Technology. The jury of tasters chose a beer that was widely appreciated, but still needed a name. TUM President Prof. Wolfgang A. Herrmann came up with the name “JubilaTUM”.

An unfiltered beer specialty

“JubilaTUM” is a symbiosis of tradition and modernity: based on the traditional “Export”-style, brewed with state-of-the-art equipment and technology, and with a very own dry characteristic – thanks to hops from the Hallertau region. Malts of the varieties Pilsner, Cara Pils, Wiener, and Münchner Type 2 yield a golden-yellow color, and it is the hop varieties Hallertauer Taurus and Hallertauer Hersbrucker that are responsible for the aroma. “JubilaTUM” is an unfiltered beer specialty – with 12.5 percent original wort and 5.2 percent alcohol by volume.
