Gulf nation Qatar follows the lead of German Engineering

"German University Qatar" to follow the example of TUM

The Gulf nation of Qatar plans to utilize the expertise of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) to establish an international university with top-level German standards. The project for a "German University Qatar" was announced by Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, after a conversation with TUM President Prof. Wolfgang A. Herrmann at the Qatar - Germany Business and Investment Forum on September 7 in Berlin.

The project will be realized with German Education Qatar under the coordination of TUM International GmbH. The project is part of an extensive expansion of the bilateral relations that already closely link the Gulf state with Germany, especially in economic terms. The new university will begin with engineering sciences, informatics and economics and is configured for gradual expansion to become a full university modeled on TUM.

The chairman of German Education Qatar, Mohammed Al Misned, sees the project as a "major milestone in the sustainable industrialization of Qatar. With the 'German University Qatar' we are investing in the talent and entrepreneurial spirit of our citizens. In doing so we and are following the example of the 150-year long success story of the Technical University of Munich". President Prof. Herrmann welcomed the orientation of the new university towards the international standards of the German university system, in particular those of "German Engineering".
