TUM at the fifth Kunstareal-Fest art festival "Blickpunkte" from July 16 to 21

Digital construction, #nachzukunft and paper palaces

Future technologies meet architectural history: This year the Technical University of Munich (TUM) will once again participate in the Kunstareal-Fest art festival with a number of contributions. Visitors will be able to try out digital construction technologies themselves and will discover the special architectural aspects of the Kunstareal museum district itself on guided tours.

Visitors can discover a lot at the Kunstareal-Fest art festival. TUM is also taking part again.

TUM is quite at home among museums in the midst of Munich's Kunstareal  museum district. The various institutions in the district are now inviting guests to the fifth Kunstareal-Fest art festival. TUM will participate with the following program items:

LoX – Augmented Reality-Assisted Construction

LoX, a collaborative effort of the TUM professorships Digital Fabrication and Structural Design with the Zurich startup incon.ai, invites visitors to participate in a collective construction process. A digital blueprint can be accessed using a mobile app; digital building instructions, precisely positioned in 3D space, make it possible to build complex structures made of wood without any further tools. Progress in construction is synchronized and coordinated by the app using cloud-based tools. The objective is to build a pavilion within two days.

Sunday July 18, 12:00 noon - 5:00 pm

#nachzukunft - After the Future

The hashtag #nachzukunft unites student projects in the Maxvorstadt district to form an ephemeral exhibition project. How will the descendants of the descendants of today's residents live in Maxvorstadt? How will cities look, what will people's lives be like? How will things be transported, how will communication work? Numerous films, interactive projects, performances, flying persons and objects, melting figures and driving sofas are now haunting the WorldWideWeb. They manifest the encounter with a future perspective artistically observed and called into question in a sometimes amusing, sometimes dystopian, analytic or simply purely emotional artistic manner.

Have a look at the (German) hashtag #nachzukunft!

Pandemic Realities – Constructed Environment in Crisis

In the project "Pandemic Realities. Gebaute Umwelt in der Krise" (Constructed Environment in Crisis) TUM architecture students encounter the reality of the pandemic. The resulting photographs, collages and texts are dedicated to current developments and topics. Everyday life in Munich was captured during the crisis and from very various perspectives. The works originated at the TUM Chair of Theory and History of Architecture, Art and Design.

Tour: "Brandhorsts vis-à-vis. The Sep Ruf House on Theresienstraße"

Sep Ruf was one of the most important architects of the post-war period. When building the multi-story Sep Ruf House apartment building on Theresienstraße – a narrow, almost planar residential building set back from the street with floor-to-ceiling windows and uninterrupted balconies – he was less concerned with formal elements and more with the design of dignified living space ("menschenwürdige Lebensräume"). The tour, led by Irene Meissner of the TUM architectural museum, will be held in German and is also appropriate for youth. The number of participants is limited, registration is open until 3:00 pm on the last business day before the tour: programmspam prevention@pinakothek-der-moderne.de.

Children's Workshop “Paper Palaces”

Is architecture created to last forever? Or can it change, grow, shrink, vanish entirely? In the children's workshop "Paper Palaces" with Enrica Ferrucci children use simple tools (tape, hole punch, split brass pins) and existing materials (old newspapers) to build their very own answers to this question – Paper Palaces: temporary, reversible and recyclable. The workshop will be held in German and is appropriate for children aged 8 through 12 years. Participation is free. Advance registration is required by 3:00 pm on the last business day before the workshop at programmspam prevention@pinakothek-der-moderne.de.
