June 24 - 25: Architectural history, robots in the museum and woodshop for children

Discover TUM at the Kunstareal-Fest

At the third Kunstareal-Fest on June 24 - 25, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) will showcase architectonic highlights of its buildings not otherwise immediately visible to the public, and will send the robot Nao to the Pinakothek der Moderne. There will also be a woodworking shop for children and young adults, while the Architecture Museum of TUM will open its doors for the current exhibition on landscape architecture.

TUM is situated among museums in the midst of Munich's Kunstareal complex. For the third time, the Kunstareal's institutions are inviting the public to attend the two-day festival. The theme: Impulses ("Denkanstöße"). TUM will participate in the following program items; it's already possible to sign up for events with limited space:

Guided tour: Buildings and Artistic Design of TUM

The tour of the main TUM premises features many fascinating stories and details about the buildings, from the founding of the university in 1868 to the present, for example the remains of the Neureuther structure, destroyed in the war, or gangways originally from the old Munich airport in Riem. Since its unveiling in 1895, the monument to Georg Simon Ohm has had to be moved five times; the nude statues of horse tamers on display at the main entrance were the cause of vocal protests in 1930. The developmental phases of the premises will be presented by Irene Meissner of the Architecture Museum of TUM. The tour is barrier-free.

Saturday, June 24, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. Registration ("Bauten und künstlerische Ausgestaltung der TUM". The number of participants is limited.)

Sunday, June 25, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. Registration ("Bauten und künstlerische Ausgestaltung der TUM". The number of participants is limited.)

Demonstration of the robot Nao

Technology meets art: TUM's Institute for Cognitive Systems will be presenting Nao in the Pinakothek der Moderne. The small humanoid robot will provide a sample of its many skills: It can dance, play soccer and speak. Scientists from the Institute will explain the research activities that are based Nao.

Exhibit „Draussen – Out there. Landschaftsarchitektur auf globalem Terrain“

Landscape architecture should no longer be limited to establishing harmony between cities and nature. Given the worldwide impacts of urbanization, growing mobility and unchecked pollution of air, soil and water, landscape architecture faces highly complex situations which must first be analyzed critically in order to plan for modifications. The exhibition features ten case-studies, ranging from Casablanca to Madrid and Kigali, all the way to Medellin, which vividly portray the interaction of the city and its surrounding environment, water cycles and local and global conditions.
