Why are young, talented researchers attracted to TUM? Where do they come from, and what do they work on? Physicist Viviana Villafañe came to TUM from Argentina six years ago to work here as a postdoctoral researcher. She now heads a small research group that is investigating the basics of a quantum internet – with the help of diamonds and quantum computers.

Communicating science to specific target groups and strengthening trust in research: These are the goals of the new initiative "AHA - The Science Communication Hub". Universities such as the Technical University of Munich (TUM), museums, academies and research institutes are involved in the network. One of the first offers for the public is the "AHA Wirtshaus-Wissen" event series with Willi Weitzel and TUM Professor Ferdinand Ludwig on May 18 at the Hofbräukeller on Wiener Platz in Munich.

idw award for the TUM Press Office

Best scientific press release of the year

The press office of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has received the award for the best research press release of the year 2024. A jury of experts from Informationsdienst Wissenschaft (idw) awarded the prize to TUM's communication on a new ultrasound method for bridge testing. The author of the text, press officer Moritz Müller, accepted the award at a ceremony at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

TUM among the top 20 worldwide in natural sciences and engineering

In the renowned QS World University Rankings by Subject, TUM is among the top 20 universities in the world for the first time in both natural sciences (18th place) and engineering & technology (19th place). In the rankings for six individual subjects, it ranks in the top 25. In six other subjects it places among the top 50 universities.
