Information on Degree Program
In the Finance and Information Management (FIM) Master’s program, students learn how to push digital technologies in finance forward and how to deal with Big Data by integrating technologies. Students also learn the methods of financial mathematics in the area of financial contract valuation, risk management, the construction and analysis of investment strategies, and gain insight into current developments in science and practical application. In addition, students deal with the management of the digital transformation of companies and digital disruption, the application of methods in the field of data processing, analysis and preparation as well as the design of sustainable business models and network structures.
The wide range of courses guarantees excellent academic and professional training. By combining subject- and practice-oriented excellence in the fields of finance and information management with interdisciplinarity as well as close networking with entrepreneurial practice, particularly high-performing and committed students are addressed, who are to be trained for appealing and challenging tasks in business and society.
The Master in Finance and Information Management provides holistic skills and links the fields of financial management, (financial) mathematics, and information management. You will be able to recognize interrelationships and problems of financial management against the background of the potentials and design options of digitalization, to independently present them in an appropriate manner, to analyze them using scientific methods, and to solve them. Likewise, the focus is on how challenges of the digital transformation of companies can be solved by methods of financial management.
You will learn how
- to combine knowledge from different disciplines - finance, digitalization, innovation, entrepreneurship - and apply them to the important business activities of companies. This cross-disciplinary understanding enables you to act as an intermediary across several disciplines.
- to recognize potentials and trends and use available information optimally to make evidence-based decisions.
- to develop and successfully implement problem-solving strategies. You will use methods from mathematics, statistics, data analysis, and information management.
- to think and act entrepreneurially to define innovative strategies and achieve goals.
- to work, present, and communicate professionally in teams.
Graduates act as mediators between the professional and technical worlds. They become key figures in digital transformation processes who succeed in mastering challenges on a personal and professional level, combining practice and science, identifying future-oriented opportunities for new (digital) business models, and shaping society and the economy.
The first two semesters focus on:
- Relevant fundamentals of finance and strategic financial management
- Potentials and opportunities through digitalization, business analytics, machine learning, and digital innovation & transformation
- Mathematical, stochastic, and econometric knowledge for modeling financial management problems
- Understanding of the mutual economic dependencies between financial markets and the behavior of market players, as well as the importance of digitalization in this area
In the third semester, the focus is on courses in the elective areas “Quantitative Finance”, “Financial Management”, “Business & Information Systems Engineering”, and “Sustainability and Technology”.
The program is completed with the Master’s Thesis in the fourth semester.

The language of instruction for this program is English.
The tuition fees for international students from third countries for this degree program are 6,000 euros per semester. Please note: Tuition fees for this degree program will only be charged from a start of studies in the summer semester 2025.

Application and Admission
Minimum requirements to apply for a Master’s program at TUM are a recognized undergraduate degree (e.g. a Bachelor’s) and the successful completion of the aptitude assessment procedure. The aptitude assessment allows the TUM school to which you are applying to evaluate your individual talents and motivation for study.
During the application period, you must apply through the TUMonline application portal and upload your application documents.
If you receive an offer of admission, you will additionally have to submit individual documents as notarized hardcopies by post to be enrolled.
Generally, applicants with a qualification for postgraduate studies (e.g. a Bachelor’s) obtained outside of the EU / EEA must have their documents reviewed in advance through uni-assist.

If you have completed your Bachelor’s degree in China, India, Pakistan, Egypt or Bangladesh, you must provide proof of a GMAT (classic/focus) with a percentile ranking of at least 65%.

For applicants from other countries, the GMAT is still optional. However, depending on the GMAT score, additional points will be awarded in the first stage of the assessment process.

We may require additional documents depending on the type of educational background you earned and your country of origin. After accepting an offer of admission in TUMonline, you will receive a list of documents you must submit to TUM in hardcopy for enrollment.
Application period for the winter semester: 01.01. – 31.05.
Our online application portal TUMonline will create an application form and a checklist with the documents you have to hand in. The checklist shows which documents you need for admission and which for enrollment.
Please also submit the documents we need for your enrollmentas soon as possible. If individual documents for enrollment are not available to you yet, you can hand them in up to five weeks after the start of the lecture period. However, we recommend that you submit all required documents well before the semester begins, as you will not be enrolled until all documents have been received.
Please check your TUMonline account regularly, to see if we have any queries to your documents or if you have to amend one or more documents.
Selection takes place through an aptitude assessment procedure. The aptitude assessment is a two-part procedure after the submission of an official application to a program. In this procedure, the TUM school determines whether you meet the specific requirements for its Master’s degree program.
In the initial stages, the grades you obtained during your Bachelor's program, as well as your written documents, will be evaluated using a point system. Depending on the amount of points accumulated, applicants are either immediately admitted, rejected or invited to an admissions interview.
