Prof. Manfletti is Professor of Space Mobility and Propulsion and Department Head Aerospace and Geodesy at the TUM School of Engineering and Design. She has extensive international experience in science, business, space, and politics - including as the first female president of the Portuguese Space Agency and head of a department at ESA.
Prof. Ulf Schlichtmann was confirmed in office as her deputy at the head of the Senate. He is Full Professor of Electronic Design Automation at the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology and has been involved in academic self-administration for many years.
Prof. Manfletti said: "I would like to thank the members of the Senate for their trust. Change requires us to continue to develop our institutions with courage and foresight - so that TUM remains a place that provides orientation and enables the future."
TUM President Prof. Thomas Hofmann congratulated the new Senate Chair: "I know Prof. Manfletti as a strategically thinking, dynamic and inspiring scientist. I am sure that under her chairmanship, the Senate will make important contributions to the future-oriented development of TUM and I look forward to working with her."
The Senate supports strategic decisions and helps shape the development of TUM in research and teaching. It is involved in the establishment and modification of study programs, issues opinions on appointments and decides on central legal regulations of the university. It represents the interests of the various status groups (professors, academic staff, other employees, students).
