US National Academy of Engineering
The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) is a US non-profit scientific society which addresses questions from the fields of engineering, technology and society in an interdisciplinary manner.
The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has over 2000 members who come from both the US and abroad. Membership of the academy is one of the highest professional accolades for engineers. Admission to the academy is granted exclusively on the basis of a nomination and election by other members.

Full Professor of Chemical Technology (Department of Chemistry)
Prof. Dr. Johannes Lercher was elected a Foreign Member of the US National Academy of Engineering in 2017, „for developing concepts and catalysts for activating and functionalizing hydrocarbons and for upgrading fossil and biogenic feedstocks via heteroatom removal“.
Honorary Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering
Prof. Dr. Joachim Milberg was elected a Foreign Member of the US National Academy of Engineering in 2016, „for development of computer integrated design and production engineering“.
Professor Emeritus of Microfabrication Technology and Microtechnology
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joachim Heinzl was elected a Foreign Member of the US National Academy of Engineering in 2007, „for contributions to the worldwide introduction and use of drop-on-demand ink-jet printers“.
