Postdoc program at TUM

100th fellowship for international postdocs

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has awarded the 100th fellowship in its postdoc program. The recipient is the Taiwanese biotechnologist Chien-Yun Lee from the National Chung Hsing University. She will spend her one-year stay at TUM working with the team of Prof. Küster (Proteomics and Bioanalytics) in Freising-Weihenstephan.

Postdoctoral researchers play an important role in competition among research universities because they combine new ideas with international experience in the career stage between a doctorate and a professorship.

Therefore, TUM established its own program to recruit outstanding young postdocs in 2013. For the tenth time, 50 shortlisted applicants have now been granted travel bursaries to spend one week in Munich getting to know TUM and, through interviews with faculty members in their fields of specialization, seeking to qualify for one of the coveted one-year research fellowships granted by the TUM University Foundation.

Postdocs from Harvard, Stanford and MIT

The fellowship recipients come from the best universities abroad (e.g. Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Tsinghua). The 100th postdoc to be selected for the program is the Taiwanese biotechnologist Chien-Yun Lee, who completed her doctorate at the National Chung Hsing University. At the Chair of Proteomics and Bioanalytics she will investigate how proteins respond to certain clinical drugs to gain new insights into personalized cancer treatment.

Perfectly complementing the Humboldt Foundation

With its extensive recruitment and funding program for international postdocs, TUM ideally complements the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), which TUM President Wolfgang A. Herrmann calls "the beacon of internationalization of German science". After completing their year at TUM, many TUM postdoc fellows are granted AvH fellowships by virtue of multiple qualifications.
