Nora Pohle in the Senate:

Credits for project work

Nora Pohle will be sitting next to her fellow student Peter Zarnitz, the student representative, in the Senate from October 1, 2014, onwards. In the university elections, she received more than 3500 votes. For her, it is an important issue that three credit points are granted for project work within the student union. Her goal: the regulation should be accepted by as many faculties as possible.

Nora Pohle is from the south of Munich. The 21-year-old student of Electrical Engineering is now in her sixth semester. When she was 18, she completed her “Abitur“ in the first G8 age group. She is interested in energy technology and renewable energy especially. How can new forms of energy be included and how can the old ones be replaced? "Trying to find solutions that are important for everyone’s future – that’s what I find exciting," says Pohle.

The future engineer likes to think beyond the borders of the scientific disciplines. She visits additional courses at the Munich School of Philosophy – a perfect supplement in her opinion, and certainly with commonalities to Electrical Engineering. Exchanging views with the students of Philosophy is stimulating. "They think in different ways and communicate differently from my fellow students at TUM."

Important soft skills

Nora Pohle is involved in the El student council since her third semester: "What I liked right from the beginning is that you can really get things going. Before, I didn’t really realize how many services the student councils provide – from printing theses and scripts to organizing large or smaller events."

The commitment takes time, but it is rewarding. Nora Pohle will not manage to obtain her bachelor’s degree within the regular study period. But she’s not bothered about that: "I’m learning so much. The so-called soft skills I acquire during my work for the student council are worth a lot – how a team works, for example, how to organize my time schedule optimally or how to sketch up an important letter…"

A reward for student commitment

There will be even more tasks for the two student representatives in the Senate during the winter semester, in addition to the numerous meetings. One of the major projects of TUM is the digitization of teaching. If possible, all lectures are to be recorded and made ??available on the net. "We support the project because it offers many advantages: For example, it enables you can take part in two lectures that take place at the same time. It helps to solve the problem of overlapping timetable entries."

Soon, there will be first results of the pilot project "Intelligentes Lernraummanagement“ in Garching to be evaluated. Living in Munich as a student is always a major issue – and the conditions for the semester ticket from winter semester 2015 onwards need to be re-negotiated with the MVG. For Nora Pohle, it is important that more students become involved in the student representation. "The project work is a great opportunity to get an impression of the scope of the student union and the student council." Thus, she hopes that – in future – more faculties will reward project work in the student council and the student bodies by granting credits points.
