TUM Asia expands its postgraduate offering in Singapore

New degrees offered on new campus

TUM Asia degree content will focus even more strongly on sustainability in future: From 2016, the Singapore-based branch of TUM is to offer a master’s degree program in Power Systems & Energy Marketing. In addition, the Microelectronics master’s program will become the Green Electronics degree. Students will also benefit from state-of-the-art surroundings – today, TUM Asia opened the doors to its area on the new campus of its partner university Singapore Institute of Technology.

With the new master’s degree Power Systems & Energy Marketing, TUM Asia is aiming to to nurture next generation engineers and managers in energy field who can contribute to the sustainability of the power industry and improve energy efficiency. The application period for the new course will begin in autumn 2015. Green Electronics is designed to educate semiconductor experts with a particular focus on applications in the fields of energy, sensing, monitoring and manufacturing.

As a result, TUM Asia will be offering six master’s and two bachelor’s degree programs, some of which are provided in cooperation with Singaporean partner universities. Since TUM became the first German university to establish a campus abroad in 2002, more than 1,000 students from all over the world have graduated from TUM Asia in Singapore. Every third graduate has gone on to join a German company.

Today, TUM Asia unveiled its area on the newly-built campus of the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). In addition to two TUM Asia lecture theatres and eight classrooms, students are also able to make use of open work spaces as well as the lounge and student club together with their fellow SIT students.

Dr. Markus Wächter, Managing Director of TUM Asia, has also announced scholarships for four Singaporean students which will cover their tuition fees in full. This scheme has been set up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Germany.
