New member of the TUM Board of Management

Dr. Ana Santos Kühn named as new Vice President for International Faculty Recruiting and Career Programs

As of July 1, 2017, Dr. Ana Santos Kühn (45) will join the Technical University of Munich (TUM)’s Board of Management, where she will serve as Vice President for International Faculty Recruiting and Career Programs.

Dr. Ana Santos Kühn studied chemical engineering at the Technical University of Lisbon. She then spent three years at the research and development departments of chemical companies Akzo Nobel and Hoechst. After receiving her Doctorate at TUM in 2000 in the field of Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis Research on a Bavarian Research Foundation scholarship, she worked as a researcher at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and TUM (as postdoctoral Alexander von Humboldt Fellow). Following this, she served on the executive board of her father's family company in Lisbon.

In 2006, she returned to TUM as Head of the President’s Office. She then took on the positions of Managing Director at the TUM Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS), and then Director of the TUM International Center, where she made substantial contributions to the internationalization strategy of TUM. In the course of the Excellence Initiative 2012, she transformed the former International Office into a center of international significance with a strong strategic component and a clear profile. She has been Managing Director of the TUM-IAS since May 2015.

As a researcher, Dr. Ana Santos Kühn has gained international experience collaborating with institutes in Portugal, Italy, Hungary, China and the USA. The results of her work are documented in 36 scientific publications and several book contributions. In her position as Vice President, she will be in charge of international career programs (e.g. TUM Tenure Track Academy, TUM Global Postdoc) and will supervise international faculty recruiting. In addition to her responsibilities as Vice President, she will keep her position as Managing Director of the TUM-IAS.
