November 8: "Starting Up USA" showcases billion-dollar start-ups

Film about start-up founders from TUM

Founded in 2011, an office in the USA in 2012, today a "unicorn": a company with a market value of over one billion US dollars. Celonis, founded by three TUM graduates, is one of the start-ups chronicled by the documentary film "Starting Up USA – Von der Garage zum Unicorn in 5000 km" (Starting Up USA – From Garage to Unicorn in 5000 km). The film will be screened on November 8 at 7:00 pm in the TUM Mathematics / Informatics department building. Afterwards founder Martin Klenk will speak with the audience.

Celonis provides a process mining software product that lets a company evaluate and visualize all of its IT-based workflows, making it easier to identify and improve complicated and "hidden" processes. The founders Martin Klenk, Bastian Nominacher, and Alexander Rinke developed the technology immediately following their university studies in Informatics, Finance and Information Management, and Mathematics at TUM.

Only four years after it was founded, Celonis was the fastest-growing technology company in Germany. Today its customers include a large number of important companies from around the world; last year investors contributed 27.5 million US dollars to the start-up.

The Celonis team was assisted by the TUM Start-up Advising Team and supported with an EXIST start-up grant, in which the university provided the team with a mentor and workstations.
