Presenter
Dr. Julia Stadler (Max-Planck-Institut für Astrophysik)

How are galaxies distributed in the universe - and what does this reveal about the early stages of our cosmos? Join the discussion on how we can further improve the theory with observations. Admission is free.

The large-scale distribution of galaxies provides important information about the initial conditions in the early universe and how the cosmos has evolved since then. In particular, they help to decipher the nature of dark energy, which accelerates the expansion of the universe. In the coming years, several new instruments will measure these large-scale structures with unprecedented accuracy. Dr. Julia Stadler from the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics will give a brief overview of our theoretical understanding of the evolution of the universe and what we know so far about the formation of these large-scale structures. Join us for a discussion on how we can compare the theory with observations and thus further refine it.

Café & Kosmos: Current questions from the universe

The Café & Kosmos event series deals with current research questions "from the universe", the Big Bang, string theory, dark energy, dark matter and many other topics. What to expect? The researchers give a brief introduction to their field of research, after which they take questions from the audience.

The Café & Kosmos is organized by research institutes in Munich and Garching: the ORIGINS Cluster of Excellence, the Max Planck Institutes for Physics, Astrophysics and Extraterrestrial Physics, TUM's Collaborative Research Centre 1258 and the European Southern Observatory (ESO).
