Open House Campus Garching October 3

Discover and try things out: We have invited you to experience research up close for a whole day.

Aerial view of the Garching research campus in 2021.

At the Garching research campus, visitors were invited to experience science in lectures, hands-on activities, guided tours and much more. Whether young or old, there were numerous activities for every one on this day: students, staff and external guests. In addition to TUM, many other research institutions such as the Max Planck and Fraunhofer Institutes took part in the day of action.

  • Tuesday, 7/8/2025
  • 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Event location
Lindenkeller Freising

Public event

Target audience

Presenter
Melanie Schirmer

More and more people are suffering from chronic inflammatory diseases and autoimmune disorders. In many of these conditions, there is also an imbalance in the microbiome. But how are these things connected? What role do gut bacteria play in these diseases? And why are autoimmune disorders more common in women? Professor Melanie Schirmer will explore these and other questions in her talk at TUM@Freising.

Admission starts at 6.30 pm and admission is free. Prior registration is not necessary.

Series of events TUM@Freising

Science - explained for everyone: Meet researchers from the TUM School of Life Sciences in person and find out what they are working on. A subsequent discussion after each lecture is expressly encouraged, because science thrives on the exchange of opinions.

The aim of the event is a lively encounter - citizens can get to know the people at "their" TUM better and learn more at the same time, while science receives valuable impulses for its research work through direct feedback from the public. The close cooperation between the city of Freising and the TUM Weihenstephan campus, which has existed for many years, is now becoming tangible in the city and region.
