Honorary Doctors

The TUM confers the title of Honorary Doctor for excellent achievements in science, technology, medicine or the arts. The Honorary Doctorate can also be awarded in recognition of a scientist’s outstanding lifetime achievements.

Implementing the recommendations of the independent, expert commission (see press release from 15 March 2024), TUM distances itself from the following honorary doctorates awarded during the Nazi era (1933 - 1945):

Eugen Böhringer (1872-1940), awarded 1935; Wilhelm Filchner (1877-1957), awarded 1938; Konstantinos Georgikopoulos (1889-1969), awarded 1938; Wilhelm (Willy) Messerschmitt (1898-1978), awarded 1938; Fritz Todt (1891-1942), awarded 1938; Ernst Udet (1896-1941), awarded 1941
