According to the “THE World University Ranking,” the Technical University of Munich (TUM) ranks among the top 10 best institutes in the world in computer science. TUM is also high up in the list in other subject groups. The British magazine “Times Higher Education” today published the subject analyzes of its ranking list. In addition to its outstanding 9th position in computer science, TUM managed 28th spot in engineering and technology. It tops the German charts in both of these subject groups. In physical sciences, comprising chemistry, physics, and earth sciences, TUM ranks 32nd, in life sciences 44th, and in the area of clinical, preclinical and health 56th. In these three subject groups, TUM comes third in Germany but ranks highest among the country’s technical universities.

“Times Higher Education” queries scientists worldwide about the reputation of universities in terms of research and teaching. Furthermore, data such as the number of publications per scientist, citations per publication, the ratio between lecturers and students, third-party funding received from industry, and the degree of internationalization is evaluated.

The complete edition of the “THE World University Ranking” was released last week. Here TUM jumped seven spots to 46th position, making it the best technical university in Germany and fourth best in Europe.
