Courses of the University Library:

Knowing where to find information

The University Library has various courses to offer – whether you have just started your course of studies at TUM, or you are already working on your thesis, or regularly publishing in the scholarly literature.

Become “Fit for Your Studies” by taking part in the introductory library course: Getting settled in your course of studies will be easier if you know how to find relevant literature. Learn how to search the online catalogue OPAC, how to use textbooks, e-books and e-journals, as well as the interlibrary loan. Find out how the university library provides support for your everyday studies, starting from the first day.

In the advanced library course, we will make you “Fit for Your Degree”: When working on a specific topic, you will have to find, procure, and edit current specialised literature. This will be no problem if you know how to decide on a search strategy and how to get hold of the respective literature quickly and easily. We will show you how it works, so you will be well prepared for writing your thesis.

The University Library also offers numerous courses on reference management and citation. You can learn to facilitate your reference management with Citavi or EndNote or we will help you to avoid pitfalls of citation in our course “Cite it right”.

Whatever library course you choose, our different learning formats enable you to study at your own pace, regardless of time or place:

 • Face-to-face courses: These courses are held in our training rooms at the campuses Munich, Garching, and Weihenstephan on a regular basis.
 • Webinars: You participate online. Webinars cover the same topics as the corresponding face-to-face courses, including time for exercises, questions, and exchange of experience.
 • eCourses: This collection of online learning material offers you the opportunity to work through a course yourself, regardless of location or time. If you need quick answers on specific questions, online tutorials provide instant help. A confirmation of participation can be issued.
