New economic strength for the future

TUM among the top in European start-up ranking

In Europe, nearly half a million additional start-ups could emerge in ten years if all universities were to harness their potential as effectively as the leaders in the field of entrepreneurship. This is shown by the new Redstone University Startup Index. TUM ranks 4th among very large universities for start-ups founded by researchers. In terms of the ratio of start-ups to university budget, it ranks 5th.

QS World University Rankings by Subject

TUM among the top 20 in engineering and natural sciences

TUM has once again been ranked among the top 20 universities in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, both in engineering (16th) and in natural sciences (19th). In the rankings for five individual subjects, it places among the top 25. In eight other subjects, it ranks in the top 50 universities.

Financial Times Ranking 2026

UnternehmerTUM again named Europe’s top start-up hub

For the third consecutive year, the British business newspaper Financial Times has named UnternehmerTUM Europe’s leading startup hub. Since the introduction of the “Europe’s Leading Startup Hubs” ranking, the ecosystem formed by Technical University of Munich (TUM), UnternehmerTUM, and TUM Venture Labs has consistently ranked first.

The renowned Shanghai Rankings recognize TUM's research achievements in several subjects as being among the best worldwide.
