UBUNTU describes an African philosophy of life of humanity, charity and community. However, our society is often divided into pigeonholes and categories that separate us instead of connecting us. Trapped in the daily grind and uniform routines, the longing for encounters and genuine connection grows. The choreography UBUNTU sets out in search of human togetherness – between conformity and diversity, heteronomy and self-determination. It tells of the realization that we are all connected as part of a greater whole and that it is only in this connectedness that we become human and make each other more human.
The event is free of charge. Early arrival is recommended. No registration required.
Ubuntu - final performance of the student project “Community Dance”
The “Community Dance” project week invites TUM students from a wide range of disciplines to come together artistically as dancers in a collaborative dance company. In this newly created social space, participants are encouraged to explore their own abilities playfully, unlock new creative perspectives, and experience a sense of community, responsibility, and appreciation through working with others.
Former participants describe “Community Dance” as “a project that anyone can join, just as they are.” Many expressed pride in “how quickly they grew through the experience.” Spectators also remarked that it was “incredible how confidently and professionally the dancers performed—especially after such a short rehearsal period.” The project’s scientifically grounded approach fosters meaningful connections between people from diverse backgrounds. By introducing this initiative to the TUM community through TUM tanzt!, it becomes possible to build lasting bridges between the worlds of art and science.
TUM tanzt!
TUM tanzt! (TUM dances!) is one of the Technical University of Munich's contribution to the Kunstareal Festival 2025. Through workshops, performances, and collaborative projects, TUM demonstrates the many ways dance can serve as an expression of culture, education, and research. The events invite not only spectatorship, but participation—creating a shared space for encounter, reflection, and creative inspiration at the intersection of science and art. TUM tanzt! is supported by TUM University Foundation.
