Johannes Lochner wins Gold in 4-man bobsleigh at Königssee

TUM Master’s student is the new Bobsleigh World Champion

At the Bobsleigh World Championships in Königssee, Johannes Lochner, a Master’s student in electrical engineering at TUM, and his team brought home the victory in 4-man bobsleigh. The athletes share the honor with Francesco Friedrich’s team – after four runs, both teams ended up with exactly the same time.

"Once you’ve raced down the bobsleigh track for the first time, you can never stop," the graduate student Lochner effused, describing his passion for bobsleigh. His grandfather and his father were already bobsledders before him, so enthusiasm for winter sports is practically a family tradition.

Lochner started his bobsleigh career as a braker, but soon realized he would much rather pilot the sleigh. His success proves this was a smart move: In his 4-man bobsleigh, he piloted his team to World Championship gold at Königssee. The 26-year-old also won the bronze medal in 2-man bobsleigh along with his pusher, Joshua Bluhm.
