Over 7,000 meals every day:

The new canteen at Campus Garching

The construction on the new canteen at Campus Garching is coming along well. Recently, the topping-out ceremony took place. The building is expected to be finished in one year.

In recent years, many new facilities have been added to the TUM’s campus in Garching – and at the same time, the number of employees and students on the campus has grown significantly. Therefore, the Studentenwerk München, which operates the canteen, is pleased that the building authority (“Staatliches Bauamt München 2”) will construct a state-of-the-art building for 44.5 million Euros, with financial support by the Bavarian state government.

Redesigned service counters

The new canteen is supposed to be completed by the beginning of the winter semester 2018/2019. The new building has a main area of 5,265 sqm, and the area with the service counters and the refectory will be significantly larger than before: In future, around 7,300 meals will be produced every day – instead of the current number of about 5,000.

Thanks to the new dishwashers, the old form trays will finally become a thing of the past. They will be replaced by porcelain plates. The redesigned service counters will allow for a wider variety of options: salad bars, a vegetable bar, a soup station, a pizza counter, a pasta counter, a wok counter, a grill, as well as vegetarian and vegan food.
