Kunstareal Festival 2025

How can science be experienced with all the senses? At the Kunstarealfest 2025, TUM shows how research, technology and social issues come to life in artistic formats - including dance, sound art, discussion and interaction. As part of the Kunstareal, it combines science with culture in the heart of the city.

These are the contributions of the TUM. There are more exciting program items to come!

• Heaven’s Carousel (from 26.06 to 14.06, 21:15 - 0:00, green area of the Alte Pinakothek)
  With the expansive instrument Heaven's Carousel, Tim Otto Roth unfolds a revolution for the eye and ear: 36 spherical luminous loudspeakers rotate like celestial bodies in three wide circles above the audience under the motto 'Scales are free'. A cooperation project between the TUM Center for Culture and Arts and the Chair of Audio Signal Processing, Prof. Bernhard Seeber.
• Europe - Move your stars (27-29.6., entrance area and stairs of the Munich School of Public Policy - indoor area open to visitors from 18:00-22:00)
  Set the stars of the EU flag in motion, playfully - but with depth. Our interactive light installation turns every gesture into a sign of commitment and change - an encouragement to raise our eyes: to the light, to each other, for the common future of Europe. An interactive light installation by junk.one at the Munich School of Public Policy.
• Escape from Carbonia (29.06., 12:30 - 17:00, Foyer Museum Mineralogia)
  Join us on a space mission! Experience hands-on science in the Escape Room and discover current research from the e-conversion Cluster of Excellence while puzzling and experimenting. Help a robot on its mission to a newly discovered exoplanet. Can you unravel the mystery of this planet - and decode a new technology for the energy of the future? A project from the Science in Dialogue university competition, funded by the BMFTR in the Science Year 2025 - Future Energy
• TUM dances! (Various events during the Kunstarealfest)
  In workshops, performances and discussions, it shows the diversity of dance as an expression of culture, education and research. Participation opportunities such as hip hop, jazz dance or the children's workshop "It wasn't me!" invite you to experience. Performances such as RoboTICKS and Ubuntu as well as the discussion ARTificial Encounters combine movement with new perspectives. TUM tanzt! is a collaboration between the TUM Center for Culture and Arts and the TUM School of Medicine and Health, Applied Sports Science.
• TREES, TIME, ARCHITECTURE! Design in Constant Transformation  (10:00 am–6:00 pm daily except on Mondays, Thursdays 10:00 am – 8:00 pm, Architekturmuseum der TUM at Pinakothek der Moderne)
  The exhibition “Trees, Time, Architecture!” explores the potential of trees as living architectural elements, addressing temporal, ecological, and design dimensions of a paradigm shift toward process-oriented planning and building. An exhibition by the Architekturmuseum der TUM
• Talk Talk for TREES, TIME, ARCHITECTURE! (28.06. 1:00–3:00 pm, 29.06. 1:00–3:00 pm and 3:00–5:00 pm, Architekturmuseum der TUM at Pinakothek der Moderne)
  Architekturmuseum der TUM cordially invites you to a two-hour museum talk. During this time, the educational staff will be on site in the exhibition and will be happy to talk to you about TREES, TIME, ARCHITECTURE! 
• 4 Museums – 1 Modernity (10:00 am–6:00 pm daily except on Mondays, Thursdays 10:00 am – 8:00 pm, Architekturmuseum der TUM at Pinakothek der Moderne)

  On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum, the four museums of the Pinakothek der Moderne are presenting a selection of special highlights that heralded and depict modernism.The era of modernism is presented from its beginnings before the First World War to its end with the beginning of the Second World War, from its early developments through its heyday to its natural integration into everyday life. A joint exhibition of all 4 museums.
