TUM Science Manager(Level 2)
TUM is undergoing a far-reaching transformation process. The structural conversion to interdisciplinary schools and the digitalization of important core processes place particular demands on you as a science manager: you initiate, coordinate, and manage change initiatives and implement the new university strategy in the schools, central facilities, and administration. In doing so, you often have to mediate between different interests and overcome resistance. Our structured qualification program, TUM Science Manager (Level 2), provides you with targeted support!
The TUM Science Manager (Level 2) aims to strengthen experienced science managers' skills that are critical to mastering the complex tasks of science management.
Target Audience
The program TUM Science Manager Level 2 is open to members of the academic mid-level staff (employed on a temporary/permanent basis in pay group E/A13 or higher) with at least three to five years of professional experience in science management and, generally, a completed doctorate. The doctorate should come before the professional experience, which should include activities in science management or related management tasks. One can consider gaining a significant amount of relevant experience during the doctorate.
The target audience is primarily persons in staff and interface functions, persons with design, control, and management tasks in the schools and their chairs or in central (scientific) institutions as well as in academically shaped fields of activity in the administration, who regularly face changes and (want to) actively shape them. There is no age limit for applications.
Contents
The "Change Management & Transformation" module addresses the constantly changing world of science management. Whether through far-reaching restructuring of entire organizations, digitalization initiatives, or developments on a smaller scale, science managers are constantly confronted with change. They not only have to face new circumstances and tasks but often also actively shape the change processes. We provide you with specific methods and tools, as well as discuss current developments in academic management with you, so that you are optimally prepared to master current and future challenges.
The module "Management of Higher Education Institutions" provides you with the knowledge, methodological approaches, and relevant framework conditions to successfully shape management processes and implement strategic goals at a university like TUM. We discuss legal and financial aspects of management with you and teach you methods for shaping cooperation with stakeholders and leading teams.
As part of the course program, you can set individual priorities and choose courses from the TUM continuing education program.
Information on the other elements of the qualification program (self-learning, career coaching, peer mentoring, practice transfer, and job shadowing) can be found here.
