QS World University Rankings

TUM number one in Germany again

The Technische Universität München (TUM) has again been evaluated as the best university in Germany by one of the most highly regarded rankings. The “QS World University Rankings”, published today, classifies the TUM in 53rd position, putting it ahead of the so-called full-scale universities in Germany. In August 2012, the “Academic Ranking of World Universities” (Shanghai ranking) also listed the TUM as the number one German university, ranking it in the same position.<br /><br />

The "QS World University Ranking" evaluate status among academics and companies, citations per academic, the staff-student ratio, and the proportion of international employees and students. QS, the UK human resources service provider, uses statistics and surveys of academics and HR managers to this effect.

The TUM climbed one position in the rankings compared to the previous year, overtaking the University of Heidelberg (ranked 55). The third-best German university is the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (ranked 60). TUM is classified as the fifth-best technical university in Europe.

In the technical disciplines, engineering at the TUM attained 21st position, which is the highest ranking among the German universities. The TUM also rose in the natural sciences reaching the 25th position.

The TUM was very highly rated by the companies surveyed. Moreover, it also has the best staff-student ratio among the German universities.
