Support for 1005 students

New record for Deutschlandstipendium scholarships at TUM

The success story of the Deutschlandstipendien at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) continues. With 1005 scholarships, the number has reached four figures for the first time in the winter semester of 2023/2024. The number of sponsors has also continued to rise: This year, there are 127. Since the start in 2011, almost 8000 students at TUM have received this financial support; this corresponds to a total funding volume of 28.8 million euros.

President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann said on the occasion of the annual celebration on the TUM Campus Garching: "The Deutschlandstipendium is more than just a financial award and support for particularly talented and high-performing students. It builds a bridge between generations and connects promising talents with globally experienced graduates and generous donors."

The scholarship amounts to 300 euros per month. Half of this is financed by donations, and the other half comes from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The sponsors are far-sighted foundations, associations, companies, and generous private individuals. They not only support the students financially but also act as mentors and support them with their life, career, and world experience.

New Matching Challenge was launched

A new matching challenge was also launched at the ceremony in order to provide even more young people at TUM with a Deutschlandstipendium. The challenge: If the scholarship holders and alumni of the Deutschlandstipendien community collect 9,000 euros in donations within six weeks, private sponsors will double this sum. If this is achieved, the TUM University Foundation will add the same amount. This will raise 36,000 euros, which will then be doubled by the federal government to a total of 72,000 euros by the rules of the Deutschlandstipendium. If the Matching Challenge is successful, TUM can then award a further 20 scholarships.
