Application for Master Craftspersons and Qualified Professionals

Even if you do not have a general higher education entrance qualification, you can take up a Bachelor's degree program at TUM under certain conditions. There are differences between master craftspersons and those with equivalent qualifications on the one hand and persons with other professional qualifications on the other.

Here you can find all information on the requirements and the application process for a Bachelor's degree program for master craftspersons and qualified professionals.

Master craftspersons and those with equivalent qualifications (graduates of a technical college or technical academy such as state-certified business administrators or state-certified technicians as well as persons who have successfully completed any of the advanced vocational training examinations recognized by the State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs as equivalent to the master craftsperson examination) have a general higher education entrance qualification, i.e. they can apply for all Bachelor’s degree programs at TUM.

Please note the respective admission requirements for the individual degree programs. You can find information on this on the respective degree program pages in our degree program overview.

Mandatory advising session

In contrast to applicants with a general higher education entrance qualification, master craftspersons and those with equivalent qualifications must submit a confirmation of participation in an advising session for your application. Please contact TUM’s General Student Advising to arrange an appointment.

The session is not only about your academic suitability for a degree program, but also about helping you make the right decision for you. For example, you can discuss questions about the challenges of studying and possible related issues (employment, financial issues, private situation).

Application

You can apply via TUMonline during the application period for your degree program. When applying, please select the option “master artisan or equivalent” in the general qualifications section.

You can find all information about the online application here.

Application for qualified professionals

Persons who have completed at least two years of vocational training and have subsequently worked full-time in their profession for at least three years can be granted subject-specific access to higher education. This means that they can apply for a Bachelor’s degree program at TUM that is related to the field of their vocational training. However, the university must first assess their eligibility to study.
